Admirable Myagdi United Conquers T20 Final over Intouch Sagarmatha
A determined Myagdi United won over Intouch Sagarmatha in emphatic manner on Sunday the 12th December at Lees Park. With the welcoming weather, stage was set for the final. After snatching the opportunity in semis against Nepcoms Laligurans; Myagdi United certainly did not wanted to lose the momentum.
Sagarmatha called for batting after winning the Toss. Sagarmatha’s openers Robin Tamrakar and Shashi Keshari gave a steady start with their individual scores of 23 and 14 respectively. Pawan took a comfortable catch of Suraj’s delivery to get rid of Shashi Keshari. At this stage the score looked 1/42 in 7th overs. The equation did not look alarming for Sagarmatha but Captain Aakash Bhattarai was aware that “spark” was missing from the inning. As a result he brought himself to the crease. Robin soon followed after trying to flick ball from Dipendra Thapa against the spin to square leg, only to eventuate in to the leading edge; where Chitiz took an easy catch. Just as Aakash looked to lift the tempo; Deepzu rattled his stumps with spinning delivery. Aakash, gripped with two minds played the shot early to miss the ball. Atul hit polished 26, including 2 sixes and a boundary. This was the highest score for Sagarmatha’s innings.
At the end of 15th over and 5 wickets on hand, Sagarmatha was heading towards a sizable score. Batsman were determined to take the advantage of final overs however, clever bowling changes by Myagdi produce a stream of wickets at regular interval for them. Myagdi’s bowlers produced great discipline to restrict Sagarmatha to 130 from their 20 overs capturing 9 wickets. Pradeep Panta stood out taking 3 wickets closely followed by Suraj Bariyait and Deepzu with 2 wickets each.
Captain Aakash Bhattarai opened bowling attack for Sagarmatha. For Myagdi it was all about consistency as Manish Shrestha and Pradeep Panta took the guard. The pair looked very controlled and determined. As they laid their plan to score chunk of their runs in first 10 overs; both batsman hit boundaries. Myagdi raced to 32 runs just in 4 overs. Manish Shrestha punished bowlers for straying their line and length. Pradeep Panta partnered with Manish Shrestha taking the score to 69 runs. Aakash Bhattarai left with no answer as he watched all of his bowlers been tore apart. With only 50 runs to defend in 11 overs, the reality was grim for Sagarmatha.
Ashish Shrestha ignited the late revival for Sagarmatha taking the very first wicket removing Pradeep Panta. He also claimed Suraj Bariyait wicket the very next ball with LBW. The “yolker” that pitched middle and leg stroked Suraj’s toe, leaving him unflattered. On a Hat Trick Ashish bowled swiftly to Chitiz Singh. Chitiz played the forward defence shot to deny hat trick. Rajendra Shrestha also chipped in with 2 wickets for Sagarmatha. Too little too late for Sagarmatha as Myagdi reached their target well within the overs.
Manish Shrestha displayed a match- winning performance hitting 53 runs with 5 fours and 3 sixes. His aggression and understanding of the game set the tone for Myagdi united. He was awarded the Man of the Match for the finals by the panel.
Whilst Intouch Sagarmatha will be disappointed to have been so thoroughly outplayed by a slick Myagdi United, they will at least rest content in the knowledge that their defeat takes little away from a largely successful T20 matches into the one day matches.
Winners are grinners and today, Myagdi United certainly has the last laugh.
'Super' Win for Myagdi United against Nepcoms Laligurans in GNC Cup T20 Second Semi-Final Decider
Myagdi
United has clinched a thriller in T20 against Nepcoms Laligurans in their second attempt at Lees Park on 4thDecember 2010. Myagdi United was declared winner after the ‘super over’ as the 20-20 match was a tie.
Winning the toss, Myagdi United’s skipper Pradeep Panta opted to field first. The opening pair from Nepcoms Laligurans, Nabin Gurung (28) and Ashesh Siwakoti (55) started gallantly against the new ball. However, Myagdi United’s bowlers fought back from a blistering opening by Nabin Gurung to snatch a 2 wickets victory and keep the series alive.
Nepcoms Laligurans could not regather their form once Captain Arjen Aryal departed on 13. Even though the ‘worm’ moved further, mixture of run outs restricted it moving north. As a result, Nepcoms Laligurans finish the day for 147 losing 7 wickets.
As the asking rate just above 7 runs per-over, Pradeep Panta did not seem overly concerned, which led to a fatal error of judgement on his part, when he faced a rising ball from Gunjan Shrestha with out helmet. Trying to avoid the short ball, Pradeep misjudged the speed and got smashed on face. However, he displayed courage to stand his ground and play. Both the openers Manish Shrestha (17) and Pradeep Panta (19) laid good foundation for the chase. Suraj Bariyait (16) and Kshitiz Singh (17) followed slowly to reach the target.
Nepcoms Laligurans appeared to be cruising with ten overs remaining. The asking-rate was eight and half, and five wickets down, Myagdi looked feeble opponent. Myagdi United was kept in the game largely by their middle order batsman and the man who changed the course of game for Myagdi was Dipendra Thapa. His uncanny resilience and clean hitting made him the instant superstar.
With few nudges Dipendra Thapa started his innings. As asking rate started to head high, he picked up his scoring rate from couples to boundaries. He smashed five sixes and a boundary in his polished inning of 53no. Most of those sixes were from pull shots. No doubt it was a match winning performance from him. Kshitiz Singh supported him from the other end. As a result Myagdi salvaged a tie from the final ball.
To decide the winner, both teams participated in ‘super over’, where both the teams face 6 legal deliveries with only 2 wickets. Myagdi again opted to field first winning the toss.
Myagdi seized the momentum with the draw from the near-loss match. This provided a moral boosting support for the team and especially to Captain Pradeep Panta. As spectators gathered around the ground for the final overs, it was anything but relaxed.
Batting duo Nabin Gurung and Arjen Aryal took the guard for batting. With high support from cheering crowd from the camp, Pradeep Panta bowled. Pitched on the off stump and just short of the length, Nabin tried to hoick it over the bowler’s head. Just for his disappointment, the ball instead picked up the outside edge and Manoj KC took a comfortable catch. As drama continued, Captain Arjen Aryal got the bottom edge from the very second ball of the over, which Pawan Chhetri (WK) took a tidy catch. Myagdi was jubilant as the scoreboard read 2/0. Once again Dipendra Thapa hit a fine boundary from the very first ball sealing the victory for Myagdi United.
It was clear that the day belong to Myagdi united, largely to have a belief that battle is never lost till one truly believes so. Man of the Match was awarded to Dipendra Thapa for his superb performance with the bat.
Nepcoms Laligurans and Myagdi United awaits another week as rain washes out the match
Both Nepcoms Laligurans and Myagdi united have to wait another gruelling week to compete as rain washed out the second match of GNC T20 Competition. Both the team captains expressed sheer frustration as they watched rain soaking the ground. A large crowd was about to witness this match on the back of Nepcoms Laligurans’ Nabin Gurung’s maiden century against GCA last week.
NCA’s Secretary Mr. Manoj Shrestha quoted “ I am bit disappointed for the fact that game did not execute, however next week’s semi final and Final showdown only gonna be bigger and better. I would like to request everyone to come to Lee’s Park and cheer for players”.
Second semi-final is scheduled at 10 am at Lee’s Park (Canterbury) at 10 am.
Intouch Sagarmatha holds nerve in tight chase to beat Send Paisa Kuleswor
The final two partnerships of Intouch Sagarmatha’s innings prevail to beat Send Paisa Kuleswor by two wickets in the first T20 Semi Final of GNC Cup. In a very tricky low scoring game, Sagarmatha successfully chased 108 runs.
The 8th wicket stand between Rajesh Dev Panta (16) and Ashish Shrestha (7) given a reprieve to Intouch Sagarmatha’s run chase. In a deceivingly two paced wicket, batsman suffered. Ball seemingly lacked pace and the turn was rare. Stroke play was difficult as ball was not coming on to the bat as anticipated.
Send Paisa Kuleswor started their inning well with openers Balram (20) and Sanjeev (13) contributing. Both batsmen played cautiously as runs were coming mostly in singles and twos. Captain Pursottam Bista played well for his 22 before Ashish Shrestha bowled him out. He lifted the tempo scoring some boundaries. Send Paisa Kuleswor’s run ended with the departure of their Captain. Middle Order batting collapse proved to be fatal for Kuleswor as they lost 4 wickets only for just 1 run scored off the bat. Sagarmatha’s Abnish snared 2 quick wickets provided them to be back on the game. Tumbling wickets restricted Kuleswor scoring opportunities. Where Kuleswor seeming lost the plot, Sagarmatha lifted both their bowling and spirit. Ashish Shrestha bowled well for Sagarmatha in the final overs with controlled length and line. Earlier, Shashi displayed quality spin bowling removing both the openers claiming 4 wickets.
Sagarmatha’s run chase got off to mixed start as batsman failed to make their mark. Robin Tamrakar (11), Aakash Bhattarai (13) and Sameer (14) had the good start. Pursottam Bista bowled with tight length and line. He was rewarded with 2 wickets. Sagarmatha suffered the safe fate as Kuleswor losing wickets in a regular interval. Niraj and Ajay bowled cleverly capturing 2 wickets each. At the end of 15th over score board read 82/8. Kuleswor was really close to claim victory, though batsmen were stuck to their ground. This provided tense final overs in the match as game swung considerably. Kuleswor’s bowling attack suffered a major setback as they lacked 5th special bowler. Sagarmatha took full advantage of it scoring at ease. Rajesh Dev Panta hit 2 boundaries in the dying overs to drive Sagarmatha home. Aashish Shrestha on the other end also stabilised preventing further loss of the wicket.
Man of the Match was awarded to Aashish Shrestha for his contribution with both bat and bowl.
INTOUCH SAGARMATHA CLAIMS THRILLING VICTORY OVER MYAGDI UNITED
Intouch Sagarmatha has proved their tough mantle by winning the game in the very last over by marginal 2 runs. Winning the Toss Sagarmatha elected to bat first. Once the game was underway, message from both captains was loud and clear score some runs and bowl well.
Opening bowling pair Pradeep Panta and Manoj KC bowled effectively extracting pace and bounce off the dry turf. Myagdi had a reason to celebrate early as Manoj captured the prised wicket of Atul Shrestha on naught. Captain Aakash (17) brought himself up the order to bat at no 3 position. He combined with Rabin Tamrakar (15). Score Board of 4 for 56 in fourteenth overs, Sagarmatha seemingly lost its way. Rajendra Shrestha and Abnish crawl its way back. Rajendra Shrestha played a fine knock contributing 22 runs. Chipping singles and twos, Rajendra steady the stream of runs. Later, he played unorthodox reverse sweeps and backward flick shots to revive the boundaries. Due to this, Captain Pradeep Panta was forced to alter the field as run started to bleed. Abnish also took full advantage of the new field placing hitting 2 sixes and a boundary, scoring 22 runs only off 11 balls. Myagdi tried to fight back with the quick wicket of Anil (8) in the final over. Sagarmatha managed 112 runs from their innings.
Though the task of achieving 5.6 runs per over did not seem too overwhelming, Myagdi United were wary of losing early wickets. To establish the point, Captain Pradeep Panta and Manish Shrestha took the guard. Both the batsman played skilfully, seeing off the new ball. The pair put together partnership of 56 runs in tenth overs. This confidence boosting partnership provided a solid base for run chase. Once again, Raj Shrestha came to the rescue. He created plenty of opportunities. Once there was a huge appeal for stumping which Umpire denied adding frustration to the Sagarmatha. The very next ball Manoj top edged. It took Atul to take a spectacular diving catch. This started the revival of Sagarmatha’s fight back. Captain Pradeep Panta was out for 27 to a terrible running between the wickets. Pawan Chhetri (12) and Dipendra Thapa (21) stabilised order.
On the day, where game hung on the balance, both teams lacked discipline in several fonts. Sagarmatha’s fielding was sloppy at times as Myagdi lacked understanding of game plan. Batsman from both teams mostly played conservatively as no one claimed upper hand.
However, Myagdi’s lower order once again proved the weakest link, slumming to 5 for 13. Anil bowled enthusiastically during final over. In the end Myagdi united only manage 110 runs in their 20 overs. Man of the Match Rajendra Shrestha quoted “The game is not lost till the final whistle blows”.
It was clear that both Sagarmatha and Myagdi were shrewd in their planning and preparation on the day, execution was a different ball game.
Pacific College crumbles as Mirchi Lumbini races home in T20
Coming close to finals, both Mirchi Lumbini and Pacific College both prepared for classic showdown. However, it was Mirchi Lumbini who had the upper hand from the very first over. Winning the Toss Mirchi Lumbini’s captain Dipendra elected to field first, rightly so, as Kiran proved quite ‘handful ‘for Pacific batsman.
With high tide, Kiran bowled beautifully, moving the ‘cherry’ both on the air and on the pitch. On the very second ball of the first over, Kiran uprooted Pravin Shrestha’s off-stumps for naught. Ball that pitched middle and leg stump and drifted sharply to the off stump to clip off-stump out as Pravin looked in dismay. Again on the fourth ball of same over he trapped Arpen for duck. Playing from the crease Arpan was late for shot and trapped plum in front of the wickets. As this stage score board read 2/0 in 1stover. Pacific College needed someone to stand up and face the music. Pravin Gautam (25) and Lokesh (13) paired up to provide some stability. Despite tumbling wickets and miser scoring rate, Pravin Gautam batted with courage and patience. The pair took the score to 38. Kiran took sharp catch at short mid-wicket off Dipendra to remove Lokesh. Siddhartha (17) and Dinesh (13) tried to gather the momentum with partnership as Kiran tore through the lower orders claiming 6 wickets for 13 runs. Sagar also chipped for 3 wickets. Pacific wrapped up their innings setting the target of 77 runs.
In their run chase Mirchi Lumbini did not waste their time. With solid batting performance from Govind (26) and Dipendra (38), Mirchi Lumbini looked well and truly champions on the day. Earlier Pacific’s bowler Sumit Shrestha bowled superbly with the new ball. The challenge grew bigger for Pacific as run started to bleed with the dismal looking target. Both Govind and Dipendra opted boundaries to seal the game. As a result Mirchi Lumbini only took 10.5 overs to claim the victory.
Man of the Match Kiran was awarded the ball for his memorable bowling performance.
Intouch Sagarmatha and Mirchi Lumbini shares tie in nail biter T20 Match
On the glorious Sunday, both Mirchi Lumbini and Intouch Sagarmatha played quality cricket today. If the sun alone was not enough, the gripping day of cricket also produced competitive cricket, an individual brilliance. On the day when passion flared, characters are built.
At the Toss Intouch Sagarmatha called for ‘Head’ for and lost it. Captain Dipendra from Mirchi Lumbini invited opposition to bat first. It was a near perfect batting condition. However, condition alone did not help Sagarmatha’s batsman. Mirchi Lumbini’s Kiran bowled with motive and pace. Sagarmatha’s opening pairs Shashi (13) and Atul (28) did their best to tackle some quality bowling.
Playing very straight and safe, bowlers restricted Atul early. However, he hit a huge six to a short ball from Noor Thapa. This helped Sagarmatha to break both the shackles and drought of runs. Suraj (2) and Sameer (2) failed to fire. Seamers Govind and Kiran kept the run rate under 5 runs till the midway. Despite wickets falling around him, Atul displayed great technique and discipline. He drove the overpitched balls and pulled the short ones. Failing to read an extra bounce from Sagar, he handed a simple catch to Noor near third slip region.
Rajendra Shrestha played cautiously adding 15 more runs to the total. His flick sho over the keeper’s head for boundary was memorable. He paired up with Captain Aakash to take the score to 69 runs. Aakash remained unbeaten on 20 taking total to 108. Lumbini’s Sagar bowled accurately and sharply taking 4 wickets.
In reply, Mirchi Lumbini’s opening pair Avaya (6) and Govind (11) started with singles and twos. Searching just over 5 runs per over, Lumbini tumbled its way to 28 runs for 4 in seventh over. Captain Dipendra (23) tried to stabilise the tumbling wickets. He and Noor Thapa (11) momentarily threatened to take the game away. However, taking two quick wickets of Noor and Ananta, Sagarmatha was right back.
Lumbini’s batsman Susan played very well for his 17. Converting quick singles to twos, Susan dragged both run chase and Lumbini’s hope right back. At this stage, the emotions were high as the game could have gone either way. Pressure created confusion as Kiran was out to brilliant run out. Aakash took the matter on his own hand bowling last over. It was a gutsy effort from him. Needing 5 runs off last 2 balls, Ravi lofted second last ball from Aakash for mid-on boundary levelling the score. Needing only 1 run from the last ball, victory was very close. With all the fielders close to save 1, Aakash threw a short ball which Ravi tried to loft like before. However, this time the ball looped high in the sky. For Sagarmatha’s relief, Shashi took a comfortable catch. Mirchi Lumbini could not believe their luck. The victory was near as yet far.
On the basis of performance, it was only fair to recognised both Sagar and Aakash to declare Man of the Match. No matter who you are cheering for, it is for sure that both team played quality cricket and was great to watch.
Intouch Sagarmatha claims victory over Pacific College
In the second T20 of the day Intouch Sagarmatha and Pacific College took the field. Winning the toss, Pacific College’s captain Manoj Mandal called for Batting. Under the bright sunlight, the decision to bat was worthwhile.
Baibhav (23) and Prabin Gautam (6) gave a reasonable start. On his third over, Sagarmatha’s Ruben managed to nab Prabin’s wicket. Bijay struck fine 12 in 15 balls before adjudged LBW. Sagarmatha’s bowlers checked in with good old fashioned bowling. As a result, Pacific College only managed 86 runs.
In contrast Intouch Sagarmatha’s batsman looked comfortable playing their natural game. Especially batting duo Suraj (19) and Atul (19) gather the momentum as game progressed. A perfectly timed pull shot from Suraj for 6 was the highlight of the innings. Though, Sagarmatha lost wickets in regular interval, they never lost the sight of the game. Experienced batsman like Rajendra Shrestha (14) and Captain Aakash (11) sealed the game with boundary.
With this an exciting prospect of competitive cricket match awaits on the horizon.
Send Paisa Kuleswor wins their T20 match over GCA
After the wet condition at Croydon Park fail to preside the game, the T20 match was organised at Centennial Park at Croydon. In their first T20, Send Paisa Kuleswor won the toss and elected to field first. Captain Pursottam Shrestha bowled with great accuracy without giving much width. As a result, GCA’s batsmen started to wilt under pressure. Bowling with the wind on his back Pursottam displayed sensible cricket and clever field placing. This made batsman to play false shots. As pressure mounted, Niraj bowled great length and line to nabbed 3 quick wickets. All of his wickets came as batsman started flashing their bats losing their woods.
GCA’s Batsman Kasif contributed fine 22 while Naresh Gautam struck 20 runs. In the final overs Tulsi chipped in with 11 taking the scoreboard to 68 runs.
The target was too dismal even bowling with the greatest control. Kuleswor was well prepared. Opening batting pair from Kuleswor started well. Saroj contributed 18 runs before skying one. Captain Pursottam (5) stay at the crease was short lived. However, Balram (24) and Niraj (12) remained unbeaten winning the game for Send Paisa Kuleswor. Niraj was awarded Man Of The Match for his contribution both with ball and bat.
It is clear that GCA needs to uplift their performance sooner rather than later to make their presence felt.
Myagdi United wins against Mirchi Lumbini
In the first T20 Myagdi United has won over Mirchi Lumbini by 6 wickets. Winning the Toss Myagdi united elected to field first. Mirchi Lumbini opened up with a conservative fashion. So much so that opening pair Govind 21 in 20 balls while Abhay contributed 19 in 36 balls. This later proved their own demon. In the final stage of the game, Noor Thapa and Sushan Koirala chipped in for quick 13 (14) and 18 (15) respectively. Myagdi United’s patchy bowling display allowed scoreboard ticking for Mirchi Lumbini. Sundries-The highest scorer on the day contributing 55 runs to Mirchi’s Lumbini’s total of 134.
In reply Myagdi United chased the total easily making 137 losing only 4 wickets. Manish Shrestha 39(22) and Pawan Chhettri25 (34) paired up to give a solid platform for the chase.
Nepcoms Laligurans draws the first Blood against GCA in GNC T20
After first week of wash out of the competition, everyone was looking forward for a very competitive cricket on the day. And that’s exactly what viewers got.
With storm brewing on the background, completing second T20 game was at the stake. Winning the Toss Nepcoms Laligurans chose to bat. What followed was a brutal performance by batsmen from Laligurans, largely contributed to Nabin’s 80 (46), Ganesh DC’s 65 (39). Rajkumar also struck quick 30 runs only from 16 balls. Nabin put out a true batting performance to overwhelm the GCA, who seems had no answers what so ever. Nabin’s score of 80 runs included 7 fours and 6 sixes. He was well and truly on the way to make his first 100. However, in eighties, Tulsi stumble one on the base of his stumps dismantling both bells and his dream of making first ever century of NCAA’s GNC Cup Series. Nabin’s departure brought the sigh relief in the GCA camp, however it was as short lived as Ganesh smashed 65 runs only wasting 39 balls. GCA only could hope to finish the game respectable figures. Too little too late Nepcoms Laligurans amassed towering 219 runs.
Chasing 220 for victory, GCA started steady. The openers Raju and Prakash contributed 28 (31) and 12 (23) consecutively. Dhaval was the only other batsman who made 20 (11).
In the end total was too much for GCA to chase finishing on 107 losing all wickets.
Tulsi was a standout bowler from GCA taking 3 wickets at the expense of 8 runs, bowling only 2 overs. From Nepcoms Laligurans captain Arjen took 3 wickets with the expense of 22 runs in 3 overs. Ujjwol and Uddhav also bagged 2 wickets each.
Man of the Match was awarded to Nabin from Laligurans. When asked about his solid performance Nabin quoted “…..it is quite important to practice well and prepared mentally as what you want to achieve on a day.” For my personal question “Disappointed for not reaching 100?” he laughed and said “….there is always next time”.
