With vision of supporting and developing cricket in community, Nepalese Cricket Association of Australia (NCAA) has started GNC cricket tournament in affiliation with Gurkahs’ Nepalese Community since October 2010. To capture varieties and excitement, this tournament has consisted three formats including Super Sixes, T20 and One Dayers, which has given it an unprecedented popularity. Presently, in its apex the final between Nepcoms Laligurans and Mirchi Lumbini is scheduled at Gough Whitlam Park (Bayview Avenue near Tempe) on 6th March, Sunday from 11am. This has been a much anticipated match of the series with astounding excitement. All the participating teams have been playing to their best endeavor keeping standards and sprits very high. The format of the game was decided upon to ensure that maximum participation would occur among 7 teams. The points accumulated determined the position of the teams where after the round robin phase determining the finalists. This extremely popular Tournament traces its roots to the early days when the concept of professional cricket in Nepalese community was still in its infancy. Cricket enthusiasts like Rajendra Shrestha, Ruben Singh, Manoj Shrestha and Sudhir Shrestha developed its core. In its third year, NCAA has consulted with various other cricketing bodies including Local Australian Grades to improve the standards to its professional level. NCAA being one of the first few to organise, this tournament has since been recognised as one of the best in recent time. With 4 teams last year, the rate of participation nearly doubled with 7 teams acknowledges this fact. Tackling several climatic issues such as torrent rain, overcast muggy or scorching heat fail to deter any of the teams’ morale. Coming to its final stage, the excitement filled tournament will definitely pave a solid path for future generation of cricketers. With participants ranging from various localities in Sydney, the clash for the cup is mounting each year. Each team has a mixed bag of experienced and young talents. GNC Cricket Tournament has been a perfect melting point for experienced campers like Pursottam Bista and Nabin Gurung to share talents with upcoming players like Aashis Shrestha, Manoj KC and Manish Shrestha. The tournament has also been privileged to have company of decorated Players like Rajesh Dev Panta, Sagar Khadka and Govind Karki; all played for Nepal on National Level. Players’ love and commitment has proven to be epitome of this tournament. To celebrate the success of this tournament, NCAA is organising an award ceremony namely NCAA Award Ceremony on 20th March 2011. The program is scheduled to execute at Korean Society (82 Brighton Avenue, Croydon Park NSW 2133). It has anticipated having over 200 guests including business heavyweights, corporate bodies, media personalities and players. To motivate the younger generation of cricketers NCAA has planned to open a Cricket Learning School in near future. Interstate matches has also been scheduled bringing talented Apart from game’s excitement, this tournament has spread the message of bonding and togetherness in society.
